i reflected for a little while on why i'm so reliably unkind about this sort of thing, and i think what it comes down to - apart from the considerable degree to which i am just a naysaying asshole by nature - is the way that i live inside an industry whose hype cycle has pretty well ensorcelled the whole species.
sure, there's bullshit everywhere. but not every class of bullshit constructs a world we wind up living inside of for decades.

(i'm almost certainly being unfair to this article and its author, who is probably doing something more nuanced and critical than that title suggests. i might find out for sure, if i didn't find the prospect of reading it so unendurably exhausting.)
